Speaking at the High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development at United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Secretary-General stressed: “We are not mobilizing anywhere near the financing we need, public or private.”  The Secretary-General called for all to “raise ambition for development finance, climate finance, and finance that will enable markets to grow, businesses to thrive and people to live in dignity.”

Secretary-General emphasizes need to support Central African Republic 

The Secretary-General attended a high-level event on the Central African Republic and stressed that while the main responsibility for a return to peace lies with the country’s own people, it is essential that all partners remain fully engaged and united for the successful implementation of the peace agreement signed earlier this year.

Elimination of nuclear weapons: UN’s “highest disarmament priority from day one”

The Secretary-General attended an event commemorating the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons and noted that these weapons “pose a unique and potentially existential threat to our planet.” He warned about “dangerous rhetoric” regarding the utility such arms, and underscored that “the only real way to eliminate the threat of nuclear weapons is to eliminate nuclear weapons themselves.”

The Secretary-General took part on a Ministerial Meeting in Support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
