On Tuesday, the annual General Debate got underway in the General Assembly Hall. Dozens of speakers took to the famed rostrum to deliver statements covering a wide range of pressing issues.
In his address, Secretary-General António Guterres said, “Despite the chaos and confusion of our world, I see winds of hope blowing around the globe.”

At the outset of the General Debate, the Assembly reflected on what the Global Goals mean for people all over the world.

An event focusing on the Secretary-General’s Action for Peacekeeping (#A4P) initiative also took place on Tuesday, drawing attention to both the achievements and challenges of peacekeeping around the world. Read more about that event here.
