Acting under the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) mandate, the purpose of these soft-cap patrols is to interact with the local population to obtain information required for future operations and to secure peace in the area. As the post-World War II refugee problem spread from Europe to Africa, Algerians were plunged into crisis during the war for independence against France and had to flee to other neighboring countries.
