Our round-up of social media highlights from the past week

Here’s a selection of behind-the-scenes photos posted on UN social media accounts from around the UN system over the past few weeks and shared with our social media team.  We’ve also included some photos taken by fans and followers.  Thank you to all who contributed!

NBA Lakers basketball player Pau Gasol (@paugasol) visited The Republic of Chad in Central Africa with UNICEF to spread awareness of the importance of handwashing. He even refereed a soccer game while there to encourage youth to wash their hands after playing. More on his trip from the UN News Centre.

World Food Programme @WFP staffer Raja shared this great picture of himself at work.

Former child soldier and author Ishmael Beah (@IshmaelBeah) shared UNICEF‘s video of his work with child soldiers in the Central African Republic.

This mother at a South Sudan refugee camp carries home rations from the World Food Programme (@WFP) she’ll use to nourish her family.

Our World Intellectual Property Organisation colleagues spoke with famous Cameroonian choreographer Elisa Mballa about boosting the economy and creating jobs.

The term “restavek” in Haitian Creole means literally “to stay with” and is considered to be one of the worst names to be called in Haitian society. As explained in this International Labour Organisation (@ILONEWS) video, originally conceived as a system to send children to live with wealthier relatives, it has become a form of domestic trafficking and modern-day slavery.
